When you consider that home appliances account for basically 15% of your home energy costs, it pays to closely look at their efficiency. High-efficiency appliances with high Energy Star ratings can ensure your electricity bill is kept to a minimum while also benefiting the environment. Energy Stars help to decrease electricity costs and according to Energy Australia, upgrading appliances such as a fridge, dishwasher or washing machine with high Energy Star ratings can help save more than 50% on energy bills.
They’ve identified that upping the Energy Star rating of appliances can lower the annual running cost significantly. One of the examples they show in their cool infographic is that a dishwasher with an Energy Star rating of 2 has an annual cost of $179.99 per year, by upgrading to a dishwasher with an Energy Star rating of 4, this could be substantially reduced to just $71.02 annually.
Whilst appliances with higher Energy Star ratings can be more expensive initially, you really do save money in the long run. It’s a no brainer really.
