Planning your wedding? Top tips to reduce stress

By Dean Shaw · On June 26, 2018

Planning a wedding is an exciting time. But it can also be a stressful experience. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to make the most of this time and reduce the amount of stress you and your fiance feel. Whether you’re having a Mykonos wedding or a Chicago wedding, here are some top tips to reduce your stress levels when you’re planning your wedding:

Make it a destination wedding

You may assume that a destination wedding is more stressful than having a wedding at home, but the opposite is actually true. When you have a destination wedding, you know that the people who say yes to the invitation are truly invested in your happiness (and marriage). This is also a good way to reduce the amount of planning you have to do, since a destination wedding in Greece (or any other type of destination wedding) is likely to have a dedicated wedding planner who will take over a large chunk of the planning for you. That’s a win.

Take time out

When you’re in the thick of wedding planning, it can seem like your entire life is revolving around this one day. You’ll often be trying to balance your work, family, and friends, while mentally going over wedding details.

Continually being preoccupied with your big day is guaranteed to lead to stress. Instead, set aside time when you can think about anything except the wedding. Don’t check your inbox, don’t talk about your wedding, and don’t reply to any text messages. Instead, do the things you would usually do if you weren’t planning a wedding.

Set a realistic budget

Money can be the biggest source of stress when it comes to planning a wedding.

That’s why it’s good to be informed about what things actually cost, and then sit down and figure out what’s realistic for you based on your financial situation. Compare a few vendors to get an idea of what things will cost based on your numbers and the type of wedding you’re planning on having. Talk to your friends to see what they spend on different parts of their own weddings. Consider whether your parents will be able to contribute, and remember to add things like tips and fees when you’re calculating how much it may cost.
