In every bathroom there is an opportunity to get more out of it. The potential of your bathroom totally depends on its size, shape and other factors; which may be unique to some bathrooms in particular.
A bathroom hack is when you capitalise on an opportunity so that you can get the most from it. There’s tons of hacks out there for bathrooms but we want to share 3 of the best bathroom hacks that we think everyone can benefit from.
Storage Hacks
Bathroom storage is one of the easiest things to find, but one of the hardest things to get right. Adding bathroom storage to help reduce clutter, if not done effectively, can end up creating more clutter in the way of having too many storage options.
Before looking at storage, take a look at your clutter and ask yourself if there is anything that you don’t need. Sometimes old, empty bottles can be thrown out and do you ever use that little tool? You don’t know what it’s called let alone what it’s used for. Once you’ve got rid of some rubbish ask yourself do you really need storage?
If the answer is still a big fat YES, then we have an important hack just for you! When you’re considering storage for your bathroom, usually to help hide necessities and daily essentials, look towards filling a space which isn’t usable for anything other than storage. Wall space is usually the best place and one in particular is just above your washbasin. A mirrored bathroom cabinet is a stylish bathroom hack which can double up as a practical everyday mirror whilst securely storing all your bits and bobs; safely keeping them out of the reach of small children and infants.
Creating Space
Don’t you just love the big fancy bathroom designs in magazines. Unfortunately, for the majority of us here in the real world, bathrooms aren’t exactly the biggest room in the house. It leaves us fighting for space and often means keeping things simple and preventing us from adding all the furniture we’d like.
The good news is, you don’t have to knock down walls or only have a toilet in your bathroom to create more space. One way of creating space is to create the illusion of space; bear with me here! Some bathrooms actually appear smaller than they are because of the colours and textures that have been used.
If your bathroom has a window to the outside world, make sure you don’t cover it too much and allow natural light to fill the room as much as possible. Natural light is the cheapest and most effective light at your disposal. Bathroom lights can also compensate for those bathrooms which don’t have windows and for times when there is no natural light such as winter evenings and night time.
If you have dark colours in your bathroom then you can make it feel bigger by changing to bright, light or neutral colours such as cream. This will open the space up more and can make a huge difference. Downlights and spotlights are both effective for lighting specific areas of the room; great for awkwardly shaped bathrooms with dark spots.
Lastly, look at the finishes of your bathroom. Try to include more mirrors which, if you only do one thing from this list, will make a drastic improvement to the appearance of room space. Chrome textures also reflect light and will give your room’s appearance of openness a real boost
Energy Saving
Costs are constantly going up aren’t they? And sometimes you can find yourself asking where does the money go? I hate to sound cliche, but it can sometimes be going down the drain.
Your taps may seem like the most unlikely place you can be losing money, but a water saving tap can help keep your hard earned money in your pocket, whilst helping the environment at the same time. If you’re not in a position to buy a new set of taps then buy a flow restrictor. This cheap little hack will do just the trick!
As we mentioned earlier, bathroom lights can really help in your bathroom. Aim for L.E.D. lights and you’ll find your energy costs will reduce over time.
We really hope at least one of these bathroom hacks help you. We’ve tried to show every type of hack from free to higher cost to help benefit everybody. For more bathroom solutions and inspiration, why not head over to Victorian Plumbing’s blog for the latest bathroom ideas.
