The top benefits of synthetic diamonds

By Dean Shaw · On August 20, 2018

We all know that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but did you know that synthetic diamonds are a game changer in a number of different industries? In fact, many people consider synthetic diamonds from Element Six to be the ‘Ultimate Supermaterial.’ Their unique properties make them perfect for everything from healthcare to car production.

Here are some ways synthetic diamonds are being used:

Automotive Industry

Synthetic diamonds are used in vehicle manufacturing. While it’s easy to think that diamonds are only for jewellery, they’re used to make critical gearbox and engine components, assembling wheels, manufacturing windows, and finishing body panels.

Aerospace Industry

When building aircraft, the goal is increased fuel economy and reduced weight. This is achieved by using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic composites. These are incredibly strong and lightweight. CFRP is excellent, but drilling it is challenging. That’s why the drill bits use synthetic diamond to cut through the fibres.

Synthetic diamonds are extraordinarily tough, with superior wear resistance. This makes them perfect for use in the aerospace industry.

Healthcare

Healthcare must be cutting-edge (pun intended). That’s why synthetic diamonds are used for a range of applications in this industry, including minor operations and radiotherapy. In fact, they’re particularly good for non-invasive surgery. In the future, we can expect this technology to potentially replace traditional surgery, as surgeons can use these bio-compatible tools to be even more precise.

Consumer goods

Believe it or not, but you’re probably using a range of products that have been created with the help of synthetic diamonds. Speakers are one example, since synthetic diamonds help create speakers that have incredible sound quality. These diamonds are grown into specific shapes, which mean no distortion and the best possible sound quality.

Synthetic diamonds are even used for furniture, and help create items like computers, tablets, and furniture.

Optics and Thermal Industry

Heat is the biggest cause of device failure and poor performance. But industrial diamonds have impeccable thermal conductivity. For devices that use heat, diamonds are used to spread this heat, meaning they can operate longer and more powerfully.

Consider laser optics. Synthetic diamonds are perfect for this, as they lower the device temperatures, improving reliability and performance. This means no downtime, and the material never needs to be replaced.

As you can see, synthetic diamonds are driving innovation in a number of different industries. Did you expect these industries to be using synthetic diamonds?
