Will Vegas Casinos Be Forced to Go Online in the Future?

By Dean Shaw · On September 14, 2020

Las Vegas is widely considered the global capital of not just gambling, but entertainment as a whole. There are many reasons for this beyond the incredible casinos on offer. There are so many things you can do in Vegas, no matter your age, relationship status, or family situation. Aside from gambling, you can go see a magic show, a rock concert, travel to the Grand Canyon, enjoy relaxing by the pool, and much, much more. However, all of that is funded by the roulette wheels, slot machines, and blackjack tables.

This is where we get to the online gaming industry. Over the last few years, online gambling has seen significant breakthroughs in terms of financial success, as well as the variety of games on display. Some experienced gamblers are therefore beginning to wonder whether virtual gambling platforms threaten the future of brick-and-mortar casinos in Las Vegas and other gambling Meccas.

Experience Vs Convenience

Names such as Caesars Palace, Mandalay Bay, Flamingo, Rio, MGM Grand, and others are known all over the world. Many people who have never been to Vegas would be able to name at least two or three casinos on the Strip in a heartbeat. If these establishments were to suffer major financial losses, it is easy to see how that would affect the tourism and entertainment juggernaut that is the city of Las Vegas, including those Vegas shows that we at ontapblog love.

There is a wide range of benefits to physical casinos, which are seemingly irreplaceable by the online experience. The feel of throwing a pair of dice at a craps table, or placing a stack of chips on a number while sipping your complimentary Long Island iced tea can’t be replicated with even the most sophisticated VR technology. Not for the foreseeable future, at least.

On the other hand, the convenience of only being a few clicks away from your favorite game rather than having to travel hundreds if not thousands of miles to get to a Vegas casino, speaks in favor of online gambling. Nowadays, all you need to do if you want to play is tap on the icon of your favorite gaming smartphone app. There’s no added cost, no need to take a day off, or book a hotel room.

Those on a limited budget will, therefore, keep moving to online casinos, not only because staying home is cheaper, but also because the table limits are lower. In fact online casino players can even enjoy 1 cent online slots. For many of the Canadians that travel to Vegas, this represents a significantly cheaper route to gamble in. It is difficult to ignore the many advantages of online gaming, and many players are starting to take notice.

Vegas, Baby!

Despite all the benefits of online gambling, we don’t see the Las Vegas casinos going anywhere any time soon. This is the entertainment capital of the world we’re talking about. Something like that doesn’t just fall apart because gambling from home is cheaper and more convenient.

Some casinos and resorts may experience a few hiccups, but the Strip will always be there for the droves of gambling enthusiasts, party people, and families out for a weekend getaway.
