Working Out At Home VS Working Out At The Gym

By Dean Shaw · On October 20, 2021

Gym goers always praise the benefits that come with the use of weight machines and special equipment. But are bench presses, squat racks, and all the other tools and machines really necessary for optimal fitness?

In reality, nobody is going to lose any gains with a proper home workout plan. Especially if one follows a balanced at-home routine and is not afraid to increase volume.

Could Working Out At Home Be Better Than Working Out At The Gym?

Given the availability of space to do several exercises, it is no wonder that some people actually prefer working out at home. But could it be even better than the standard route?

Working out at home is so convenient that the possibility that it could be better exists. After all:

  • most people could even buy some basic equipment and not break their bank.
  • there is no dress code or face mask rule at your home.
  • you can roll out of your bed and start working out.

Why Do Some People Prefer One Over The Other?

For one thing, you have to dress and move to the Gym Leeds before you workout. Some people drive for miles only to exercise for an hour at a specific gym. But you can start working out anytime when you are at home. Plus, you save hours of driving and parking, as well as money on gas.

Of course, some people find the fitness center stimulating. Maybe, paying for a membership might be a motivating factor. In any case, one can do calisthenics virtually anywhere, including at home. So, motivation is only a piece of a bigger puzzle that could include your status, friends, or habits.

Different Types Of Workouts When Working Out From Home VS Working Out At The Gym

In the end, the main difference lies in volume. That is, the number of reps and intensity.

When working out at home, increasing the number of repetitions is paramount. After all, you cannot rely on machines to increase resistance. So, you have to select specific exercises to target each major muscle group. For example:

  • push-up variations replace the bench press (pecs)
  • triceps extensions fill in for cable triceps extensions
  • Bulgarian squats instead of using a 45-degree leg press

The Money Aspect Of Workouts

Home workouts can be a cost-effective way to save money in the long run. In fact, the average gym:

  • has additional fees for group fitness classes on top of your monthly membership.
  • charges extra for lockers.
  • puts overpriced snacks and sports drinks in vending machines.

3 Reasons For Working Out At Home

  1. Having no people around you means better privacy. Plus, you do not have to worry about what other people think of you or your technique.
  2. Intense dance workouts and shadow boxing prove to be effective cardio training. As long as you can access YouTube or Spotify, you can set a timer and do your cardio exercises at any time.
  3. Your gym will never be as clean as your home.

Conclusion

Working out at home can be fun and satisfying. In the end, your results depend on the amount of effort you are willing to put into your home workout plan. So, if you cannot stand the idea of working out in a gym, you still have plenty of options to get a superb physique.

All you need is the steadfast commitment to follow a program. Soon, you will see your body tone up and reach your fitness goals.
