4 Tips for Moving State in 2020

By Dean Shaw · On September 21, 2020

Are you looking to move to a completely different state this year? Maybe you’re looking to move closer to family, or moving in search of better job prospects. Whatever the motivation for your move, here are my top 4 tips for moving state in 2020.

1. Sell Your Home Before You Commit
Selling your home can be a surprisingly big undertaking. For most of us, our home is our biggest investment. If you’re not planning to rent it for the first few years of your move, then you’re going to want to be sure you have sold it before you pack up and move to another state. http://www.americanhomebuyer.us/ can buy your home, offering you a competitive market price and ensuring peace of mind for your move. One of the reasons this service is so well regarded is because you can choose the time frame for closing, offering you much more flexibility for a move.

2. Look For Job Prospects in Advance

If you’re not relocating for work, then finding a job is going to be at the top of your list. Thankfully many companies are open to completing at least some of the hiring process through video calls, which means you can get started before you’ve even moved state. I suggest looking at least a few months before you want to move. If you’re looking to open up your own company in a new state, then you might want to learn more about what products you can rent, to keep the start up costs lower. If you’re in the market for some roll pallets Jecoplastics.com have a great range of affordable products.

3. Get the Professionals In
There’s nothing more stressful and often emotional than packing up your life. The logistics of moving can be absolutely exhausting, and for this reason I always suggest having moving professionals help you if it’s in your budget. If not, call on friends and family to help. Order a bunch of pizza and beers and make a few evenings of it. Packing always takes much longer than expected, and the actual lifting and moving is so tiring! Get whatever help you can, so you can arrive in your new State refreshed and with energy to get going.

4. Rent Before You Buy
If you’re never lived in this new State before, then the best thing you can do is rent for a while before committing to an area or neighbourhood. There’s nothing worse than going ahead with the move, only to realize that the neighborhood you’ve chosen isn’t the right fit for you. If you can, take at least a 6 month lease to give it a go before laying down some proper roots. If you’re transferring for a company, they may help you by setting you up with temporary accommodation while you settle – definitely take them up on this offer or try to negotiate it into your contract.

Moving can be a huge undertaking, but hopefully these four tips make it an easier process. Happy moving!
