Life Hacks for moving into your new home

By Dean Shaw · On May 10, 2018

Moving into your new home brings with it a high chance of stress and hassle, but it doesn’t have to be that way. With a little planning and prep time, it’s actually possible to make your house move quite a simple process, and also gives you the chance to make some fantastic changes to your life that will have long-term positive effects. Whether you’re just starting to consider your move or you’re already knee-deep in boxes and stress, here are the best possible life hacks for making your moving day as hassle-free as possible. You never know, it could end being the first day of your new life.

Pack like a professional

One of the worst parts of moving is the inevitable boxing up of your possessions and then going through the unpacking process at the other end. Ease the effort of this by learning to pack like a pro and your moving day and the rest of the week will go considerably smoother. Remember to always pack by room, and keep an ‘essentials’ box close to hand at all times. That box of essentials should include a spare roll of toilet paper and the kettle, which will prevent delays when you need to take a break and don’t have time to pop to the closest store.

Getting your safety on

Obviously, you’re going to want your new home to be as secure as possible, and yet too few people consider just how many spare copies of keys have been loaned out or dropped off with neighbors over the years. That’s why it’s always a good idea to call in a locksmith on moving day itself. This will give you a whole fresh start in your new property, and reduce the risk of people accidentally letting themselves in and expecting to see someone entirely different living there.

Focus on the big three

There are three rooms that you need to focus your attention on first. Start with the kitchen, because you’re no doubt going to have some refueling needs on moving day, and it’s always good to have a clear run when it comes to cooking your first meal in your new home. Then move onto the bedroom, because you’re going to be tired and there’s nothing worse than staggering off to bed after an exhausting day to find that you still need to unpack the quilts and pillows and make the bed. Once that’s done, check out the bathroom, because you’ve probably got another full day of it tomorrow, and you’re going to want to start your day off right.

Get your tech working

Smart homes are increasingly popular, and if you’ve got the tech, make sure it’s all working as it should be as soon as possible. If you don’t have that smart home tech, then moving home is the best time to invest, and you’ll probably end up wondering just how you made it so long through life without it. Look for the range of options available, but always remember to get top expert choices when it comes to finding the best brands and styles to suit your home.

There’s a reason why moving home is considered to be one of the most stressful experiences in a person’s life, but with a little forethought and planning, your moving day could go considerably smoother (and less exhausting) than you might think.
