Quick and Affordable Home Makeover Ideas

By Dean Shaw · On January 25, 2021

With us all being stuck at home, it gives us more time to look around our homes and think about what needs doing! But it’s expensive and disruptive to do our homes up, so here are some quick makeover ideas. Here are some top tips to get you started…

Focus on those bookshelves

Bookshelves are a common feature in our homes, used not only as a mean of storage but lots of decoration too! Experiment with quirky shapes, diagonal shelves and don’t be afraid to paint them different colours. You can also jazz it up by having plants and picture frames rather than just books. Arranging the books in height order will make it look nice and neat too, encouraging extra reading!

Paint!

Painting is always something we’d recommend doing if you’re wanting to jazz up your interior, whether you’re looking to save the pennies or not! It costs next to nothing to paint your room and will make things look a lot better! However, if it’s a bit too much to be painting your entire home which is disruptive, why not consider an accent wall? This is a great idea if you’re wanting to get some character and style into your room. We’d recommend going for bright colours to really draw attention to it as well. Make sure you match it with the rest of the room too!

This doesn’t just work for walls, but painting furniture is a fantastic innovative way to glam things up. Whether that’s cabinets, chairs, tables or stools, it’ll give them a new lust for life and can completely change the look of it! Again, this costs the price of a paint pot. For example, if you have an old wood chair with some dents and scratches, paint it white to hide the damage and give it a different style completely.

Sand down and refinish your floors

If you’re one of the lucky ones to have solid or engineered wood flooring in your home, then you’re probably aware that you can sand down and refinish them so they’re brand spanking new again. A floor can either make or break a room, so it’s important to get this right! Removing and stains or damage that have occurred over the years will really wow you and it will feel like you’ve got completely new floors – but without the cost!
