Use These 3 Tips On Curb Appeal To Sell Your Home Fast

By Dean Shaw · On October 27, 2020

Many people decide whether or not they are going to buy a house within the first few minutes that they arrive. As they pull up, the so-called curb appeal is the first thing that they notice that puts them in the right frame of mind to buy. In other words, they can see themselves arriving at this home for years to come.

Which is why it’s so important to get it right. If people are already in the frame of mind that they like the house they can often overlook a few of the things inside that they might not be crazy about.

When you want to sell a home fast, then taking the time to work on how it looks from the street will go a long way towards that end.

In this article, I will go over several ways that you can do this and see your house sell much faster than you had imagined.

1 – Take stock

Have somebody come with you to your home and instruct them on the way that you would like them to tell you the first things that they notice as you pull into the driveway.

They will have a much more critical eye than you will since you are used to seeing your house a certain way. They don’t have to be a home inspection expert to notice things that don’t look right.

After you’ve arrived, ask them if there were any features about the lawn and landscaping that they didn’t like. Ask them why they didn’t like them as opinions are subjective. If they say there were things fundamentally wrong then this counts. The wrong choice of perennials may not be a valid critique as somebody else might like that.

Then ask them about the features of the exterior of the house that they liked or not. Hopefully this person has an eye for details and things that don’t look right will stick out like a sore thumb for them. Concentrate on the things that they didn’t like as that’s where to focus your energy.

2 – Clean it and fix it

Using their criticisms, take the time to clean up areas that they noticed. As you do so other things will start to be seen by you so get ready to do some work. Any moldy areas around the foundation should be cleaned up and maybe even painted over.

Gutters should be cleared out and cleaned. If they look particularly old, then they should be replaced. Old gutters will signal structural problems in the mind of a buyer. Edge your yard to the driveway and trim the hedges. In other words give it a nice makeover.

3 – Light it up

People that come by during the day and like what they see will often swing by at night to take a look. Make sure the house looks its best by adding some lights to showcase certain features.

A decorative street lamp in the middle of the front yard, or several lining the walkway will make a nice impression.
