Why you should start your own business this year

By Dean Shaw · On April 20, 2016

Have you been thinking about starting your own business? Maybe you’re sick of working for a boss who doesn’t appreciate you, or your job is fine but you have a bunch of great ideas that you know would work. Maybe you simply want to start fresh and you’re willing to put in the work to be financially independent one day.

If you’re thinking about starting your own business, you probably already know that it’s going to be a lot of work. But there are also plenty of reasons why you should be thinking about taking the leap, and here are just a few:

You’ll experience real freedom

Sure, you’ve still got to pay the taxman, but running your own business gives you complete freedom. While this can also be stressful since all decisions ultimately rest on your shoulders, you’ll enjoy having no one to answer to and being able to make the decisions that you feel are best for your business.

You have the chance to be financially sorted

The first five years of your new business will probably involve a lot of sleepless nights. But if you work hard, listen to advice and are prepared to sacrifice to keep your business afloat, you’ll find that this sets you up to have something to leave your children one day. Once you have a business that is succeeding you’ll be likely to continue to earn more each year, as you can invest more into the business or even franchise eventually.

You’ll have more time

Don’t get me wrong- those first few years will be killer, and you may want to get a couch that folds out into a bed for those long nights at the office. But as long as you’re prepared to work hard establishing your business, eventually you’ll get to the point where you’re hiring excellent people to do your job for you, allowing you to take a step back and focus on your family and other ventures.

You can follow your passion

Do you have a passion for food? Or maybe you’re a designer who makes incredible clothes that you’d love to see people wear. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to run a little craft shop. Whatever it is, starting your own business allows you to really follow your passion and turn those dreams into a reality. And when you love what you do, it usually doesn’t feel like work, and when it does feel like work, it’s still work that you would rather be doing than working for anyone else.

You can design your way

Have you ever walked into a shop and known that you could have designed it better? With companies like Total Fitouts, you can take your ideas, give them to the experts, and watch them come to life. Having the control and being able to really design your dream business will help you stay motivated when times get tough.
