10 ways to extend your trip when the money runs out

By Dean Shaw · On January 31, 2017

If you’re travelling long-term and you’ve realised that your money is beginning to run out, this is the post for you. Here are 10 ways to extend your trip when the money runs out:

1. Get a job

If you’re able to get a working visa in one of the countries you plan to visit, you can coincide this with the time when you’re beginning to run out of money and get a job on the ground, which is also a great way to meet locals.

2. Talk to mum and dad

Eventually even the best of us will hit up mum and dad for a loan, so if you’re beginning to run out of money, it’s worth a try to see if they have any spare cash they could lend you. Just remember to pay it back!

3. Play online

Did you know you can play for real money online blackjack games? If you like playing games online, and you feel like this could be a good way to make some serious cash, consider setting up an account- no one said you can’t have fun while you’re working.

4. Freelance

Do you have a skill that you could do remotely? If this is the case, consider joining a site like Upwork and searching the thousand of job ads for something that matches your skills- this could be the start of a brand new business.

5. Sell up

Do you have some stuff at home that you don’t even miss? Get in touch with someone you can trust and see if they would mind listing it on Craigslist or eBay for a portion of the profits.

6. Teach English
There are so many countries crying out for English teachers, and you’ll also find that there are a number of websites that allow you to use video chat tools to do this remotely. If you’re great at English and think you have the skills to teach, check it out.

7. Talk to your boss

If you have a job that you’ve left back home, get in touch with your boss. You may be able to work remotely, which could solve all of your money problems and allow you to advance your career from the road.

8. Start a blog

Blogging is a lot of work, but if you’re committed and can build a relationship with your audience, get to work. You can earn money in a number of different ways, and you may find that you love it so much that it becomes your new career.

9. Get a credit card

Did you know that you can often apply for credit cards online? If you have a family or friend who is planning to visit you, apply for a new credit card and ask them to bring it with them. Just make sure you can pay it back.

10. Get creative

Finally, sit down and do some brainstorming. Are you talented at singing or playing the guitar? Maybe you could do some busking. Are you a pretty amazing bartender? Most bars around the world are open to hiring foreigners.
