When to Visit Barbados:
Well, the good news is Barbados is great to visit all year round. You should bare in mind that July is the wettest month of the year with 18 days of rain a year. The peak tourist season is generally from mid December right through to the middle of April. Barbados also has a hurricane season, which you should keep in mind, which is between the months of June right through to October. Bare in mind that some years Barbados sees no hurricanes, but it’s better to keep this in mind when booking your holiday.
Getting Around Barbados:
There are a number of car hire places around the island, but there’s also a great bus system that will get you to almost anywhere you want to go on the island for a great price. Barbados is also relatively flat, making it an excellent place to bike around and you’ll find number bikes for rent on the island.
Top Things to do in Barbados:
If you can pull yourself away from the beach for long enough, there’s a lot to discover in Barbados, here are our top 4 things to do while you’re there:
Bottom Bay
If you’re looking for a beach with beautiful palm trees, golden sands and that’s relatively secluded, this is the pick for you. One of the more popular beaches, but for good reason, it’s worth a visit. Pack some sunscreen, a towel, your swimwear and set aside a decent amount of time to soak up the sun rays at this gorgeous beach.
Hunte’s Gardens, Saint Joseph Parish
This is an unusual attraction, because you’re actually visiting the owner’s house and garden, but it’s worth a visit. This is a tropical oasis, and we suggest that you pack a picnic and choose somewhere beautiful to sit and soak everything in. It doesn’t take too long to walk around the gardens, but it’s worth spending a little while and getting in touch with nature in a relaxing setting.
St. Nicholas Abbey
If you love history or beautiful buildings then this is a must stop for you. Here you can see the cultural history of a plantation, all while enjoying a tour which is neither too long or too short. There are also well maintained gardens which are lovely to walk through. You can also have a rum tasting and if you’re so inclined, buy a bottle or two to take home with you.
Stavronikita, Bridgetown
If you’re a fan of diving then this is a must-do for you. This is a great dive at a shipwreck, best left for advanced divers. You’ll find yourself some 130 feet down, admiring the massive 360 foot freighter ship that’s found its home on the ocean floor. This is a really great dive if the visibility is good, so check in advance before you head down there. The ship is now filled with marine life and you can dive through it effortlessly – it’s a very memorable dive.
There’s so much to do in Barbados, and there’s literally no better time than now to visit!
