Renting a Car in Miami? Here are some tips

By Dean Shaw · On August 5, 2016

If you’ve been to Miami before, you’ll be well aware that the city isn’t designed well for those who are visiting and planning to take in the sites. The public transport system leaves much to be desired, meaning if you don’t have a car you’re at the mercy of a poor bus system, Uber, or constant taxis.

You’ll find that the wasted time and amount you spend on public transport or taxis will far outweigh the benefits of hiring a car, however it’s important that you keep these tips in mind:

Think about the car you need

Before you hire a car, think about the type that will best fit your needs. If you’re traveling solo or just with a partner or friend, a small-sized car will be the least expensive for both the hire and as, while those traveling either with kids or a lot of bags will want a large sedan, SUV, or something similar so that everyone is comfortable.

Along with size, it may be important to you that your car only has a small impact on the environment, you may prefer to drive a stick (or don’t know how and need an automatic), you may like a two-door car, or need a big trunk. Thinking about these things before you book will mean the process will be faster and you’ll be more likely to end up with the perfect car for you click here.

Take Insurance

If there’s one top tip for hiring a car, it’s the fact that ensuring you’re completely covered is critical. If you happen to have an accident and you’re not covered, not only will you need to pay for the hire car, but there’s a big chance you’ll end up needing to pay for the other guy’s car too.

Some credit cards include this type of insurance, however many people assume that their card will offer them complete coverage and find that the policy isn’t that great when they actually need it, and they won’t be covered after all. Rental agents often have their own insurance, so you can either purchase this when you’re renting the car or on the day you pick it up.

Be sure to ask what’s included, check if the car is already damaged in any way, ask what your excess is, and get a number that you can contact if you do happen to have an incident.

Check the fine print

Sure, rental contracts can contain a lot of long words and legal terms that make them a giant pain to read, but without taking the time to understand your contract, you may end up in trouble. Ask the agency about the terms of your hire (how much you get charged per gallon of gas if you fail to fill it up, what happens if you’re late dropping the vehicle back), so you can make informed decisions.
