Top tips for visiting the theme parks in Orlando this year

By Dean Shaw · On April 20, 2018

The theme parks in Orlando are a magical place- whether you’re five years old or fifty. With so many incredible rides and experiences (and new ones being launched all the time), everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime.

If you’re planning a visit to the theme parks in Orlando, here are some top tips to ensure you have an amazing time:

Book in advance

If you do one thing before you head to the theme parks, make sure you buy your tickets before you go. That’s because you’ll not only save time which you would waste standing in line on the day, but you can also save a bunch of money if you get your hands on discounted passes.

Ditch the lines

No one likes to stand in line, and the lines at the theme parks in Orlando can be more than an hour long. You can, however get access to FastPass+ at Disney World if you book your passes in advance. This means that you can reserve your times for up to three shows and rides up to 60 days before you arrive. The My Disney Experience App can help you set up more as well.

At Universal, the Express Pass program can also help you skip the lines- for up to three parks on one day. This is an excellent option if you don’t have much time but you want to do as much as you can.

Get there early

The early bird gets the worm- and the best theme park rides. During the first hour or so, there are fewer people in the park. That means you can hit the most popular rides before everyone else turns up and wants to do the same thing. This can also help if you’ve got kids. That way, you can head back to the hotel around lunch, have a nap and maybe take a swim, and then go back for some more attractions in time to see the fireworks. That way, you’ll still do plenty of things without the tears and tantrums.

Take your own food

Theme park food is expensive, and it’s definitely not known to be healthy. Most parks have relatively open food and drink policies, so check the restrictions and if possible bring a few snacks. Take more water than you think you’ll need as it can get super hot and you’ll be doing lots of walking. Consider freezing a few bottles of water as these will thaw during the day so you can enjoy a nice cool drink in the afternoon.
