Why pay for an expensive gym membership when you can buy a road bike, enjoy the fresh air and keep fit? It seems like an obvious next step, but maybe you’re not convinced yet. Personally I much prefer being outside than being locked in a gym pedalling away only to move no where. Here are my top 5 reasons why you need a road bike:
1) Weight Loss
How hard is it to keep a great waist in our busy and fast-food world? It’s pretty hard. But having a road bike is a great way to burn serious calories. If you can incorporate riding into your daily routine, whether as a way to commute to work or school, or just as an afternoon activity, you’ll notice a big difference in your waist line.
2) Beat Traffic
Do you live somewhere that deals with more than its fair share of traffic jams? I’ve lived that nightmare before. Deal with it by getting a bike. You can use your bike to weave in and out of traffic (but take care) and avoid sitting still for what feels like hours at a time. Depending on where you live, commuting by bike might be faster.
3) Save Money
Gas is expensive. Car prices are expensive. It all adds up. Bikes can seem expensive, especially if you invest in a quality bike from the beginning. But overall you’ll save a lot of money compared to the running costs of a car. Who doesn’t love saving money?
4) Think of the Environment
We are polluting our planet, which is a bit stupid as we don’t have anywhere else to go. Every time we use a car, we’re contributing to the pollution. A bike is a much cleaner, and greener, alternative.
5) It Can Be Really Fun
Many of us haven’t ridden a bike since we were young and it can be almost childlike cruising around the streets (especially if you live near a big hill). Find that thrill again and you’ll develop a new addiction – one that’s really good for you.
