Five Tips to Keep Your Aging Dog Lovable and Loyal

By Dean Shaw · On July 11, 2021

Mature dogs experience distinct care needs as compared to the ones of a younger dog. Although not a shock, owners still may not know how to determine when their beloved pet is aging. Pet aging varies according to the particular dog with large breed dogs growing older sooner in comparison to smaller sized dogs.

Your canine friend could develop arthritis, that will require your dog to use medicines with made with high-quality CBD oil or other degenerative ailments that result in a decrease of pace. Your dog may not be up for those long walks or afternoons of play at the park like they once did. Tiring faster and experiencing troubles that are new to them, your old puppy will look for your generous acts.

Without optimal health care, a dental disease will create an issue for your older dog.  Dental diseases are an unpleasant condition. Experiencing trouble with their teeth will cause more mature canines to struggle with or even steer clear of their meals. Messy fur and weight loss are an indicator of potential dental difficulties. For some mature puppies, weight gain is an issue, caused by a decline in their activity. Your new furry couch potato should be of just as much concern.

Here are some tips to help keep your loyal pet in love with you:

1. Stick to a consistent schedule of visits to your vet. Older dogs who seem healthy need at least one visit to the clinic at least once a year. Although they may appear to be in good health, it is important to screen your older dog for diseases that are not as obvious. Asking your veterinarian to assess your dog’s body condition is an excellent idea.

2. A body condition assessment during each vet visit will tell you whether your senior dog is over or underweight, or at an ideal body weight. Provide your older dog with a high-quality diet, considering supplements such as Canna-Pet that work to alleviate further any discomforting symptoms your dog may be experiencing.

Fortifying your senior dog’s diet with supplements can be useful if your pet suffers from mobility issues often caused by arthritis or any other joint diseases. Glucosamine and chondroitin will benefit your senior dogs as well your Grandma!

3. Help your dog by taking excellent care of their teeth and gums. Brush your dog’s teeth daily to keep them clean and healthy. Even if a regular doggy tooth brushing seems like a somewhat silly idea, it is an excellent way to curb and even prevent later more severe medical conditions. Even if your old puppy does not like the dental routine, give them dental treats and toys that will also help to keep their teeth pearly white.

4.  Exercise is paramount for your senior dog. Keep your older dog at a perfect weight as well as working to maintain healthy joints and muscles at the same time with some daily active time. Make sure you tailor your dog’s exercise routines to match their ability and needs. Equip your home with many toys.

5. Finally, do not forget to accommodate your older dog. If your beloved pet has arthritis, you may want to provide softer bedding, ramps, or even carpets or rug in place of ceramic tile or hardwood. Remember, your dog is a member of your family just as you are a member of their pack. Keep showing them the love that builds loyalty right to the end.
