How to Celebrate a Birthday Party During a Pandemic

By Dean Shaw · On July 27, 2020

Birthdays are a time to show the people you love how special they are. Sure, a birthday represents they are another year older, but it also represents another year you spent with them. The current pandemic has made any type of celebration difficult, but making sure the birthday boy or girl gets the recognition they deserve on their big day is necessary to maintain some semblance of normalcy and sanity. There are at least five ways you can celebrate a birthday party in the age of COVID-19, including with Next Level Sailing.

1. Boating

Do you like water? If so, have you considered a birthday boat rental San Diego? Many outdoor activities are still permitted, including boating. If you have a small family circle and want to create a memorable birthday, consider checking the San Diego whale watching report for an opportunity to see the mammals of the deep. Boats offer a great way still to have a birthday outing during the current health crisis, just remember to bring your masks.

2. Virtual Gathering

Many people are becoming experts in virtual meetings. If you want to have a large gathering, but you do not have the space to maintain social distancing, then a virtual party might be exactly what you need. It is even possible to have a virtual surprise party. Send out a link to your guests, and then tell the birthday boy or girl that you want to have a personal video chat to celebrate.

3. Organize a Parade

While it would be amazing to organize a full-scale parade with clowns, cars and animals, that is not the suggestion here. Since some places still have strict gathering requirements, you can talk with friends and family to organize a family drive-by. Essentially, the birthday boy or girl stands out on the porch while friends drive by in their cars waving. You can even have a designated gift drop off point so that guests can leave packages.

4. Backyard BBQ

If you live in a neighborhood and have a large backyard, consider hosting a backyard BBQ. However, be sure to keep the guest list small enough that you can maintain the recommended six-foot distance. Since the event is outdoors, you may be able to leave the masks off, as long as there is adequate space between party-goers.

5. Visit the Zoo

If your family is tired of being cooped up in the house, take a day trip to the San Diego Zoo. The zoo is currently open and allowing guests. The park is over 100 acres, with over 3,700 animals. If the birthday boy or girl is an animal lover, then the zoo is a great way to spend an afternoon in celebration. However, make sure you look into any new rules or restrictions that may exist for COVID-19.

The current pandemic has made life troublesome and somewhat tedious. No one should feel burdened or bored on their birthday. Consider any of the options on this list to create a unique and exciting birthday experience. Whether it is cozying up next to a fire pit in the backyard or taking a boat out to see some whales, make every birthday special.
