How to Create a Cosy Retreat in Your Bedroom?

By Dean Shaw · On January 16, 2020

Your bedroom is the one space in your home that is personal to you. It’s a space that you can design to suit your needs and one place you can go to in order to wind down, relax and escape. With the right balance of soft furnishings and personal touches, you can create a space that makes you feel settled.

Invest in a Headboard

It’s a feature that is often overlooked, but a headboard is the perfect addition for creating a cosy feel within your bedroom. Headboards are ideal for keeping you comfortable whilst you read your favourite book, supporting you whilst you watch some television or simply keeping you comfortable during the night. They also help to create a focal point with your bed, which draws the room together properly and makes the room seem complete. Whether you opt for a bold headboard or a simple design, there are so many available to choose from so you can find the perfect style for your bedroom.

Use Soft Lighting

Having a soft level of lighting in your bedroom really helps to create a cosy, warm feel. Lighting is a really important feature in a room, and you can change the whole dynamic of the space by simply investing in some subtle, warm toned lights. Figure out which areas of your bedroom require the most light and introduce the best type of lighting to that area. For example, you may want to add some smaller wall lights to either side of your bed to help make it easier to read and wind down at the end of the night, whereas you may need a larger, bold fixture for the main light in the room. Take a look online at retailers like Buster + Punch for some beautiful lighting inspo to help you make the right decision for your room.

Add Soft Furnishings

Every bedroom requires a number of soft furnishings to create a cosy and warm feel, but the more you have the more your bedroom will feel like a retreat. From thick, cosy duvets to chunky blankets, soft scatter cushions and a fluffy rug, you can make your bedroom the softest, cosiest space for you to enjoy. These additional decorative touches will really come into play on those cold, wintery nights when you just want to snuggle up into bed and hibernate.

Embrace Candleglow

If you really want to have a cosy feel in your bedroom, then you need to invest in some quality candles to add that warm glow. Candlelight is one of the most relaxing things you can add to your bedroom and it gets even better when you invest in specific candles that are designed with lavender and other calming ingredients. With brands like Neom creating beautiful candles that look the part as well as doing a fantastic job, you can create a cosy oasis within your bedroom in moments.
